Impeach Sara Duterte Now! Hold Corrupt Officials Accountable!

GABRIELA USA joins the outcry of the masses to impeach Sara Duterte due to her corrupt use of government funds, her betrayal of public trust and her severe neglect of the masses while desperately clinging on to power. As Filipino women, we condemn how Sara Duterte has completely failed to provide any support for our families and has only served herself and her family’s own interests. While corrupt politicians like Sara Duterte willingly squander the public’s funds, millions of Filipino people go without a sustainable source of livelihood and basic necessities like food, healthcare or shelter.
The prices of healthcare, utilities, education, gas and basic groceries continue to skyrocket. The Philippine peso is hitting record lows (projected to be PHP60 to $1 USD this year). The minimum wage in the highest earning areas of the country is only PHP645 or ~$11 a day. The Philippine government’s AKSYON funds for overseas Filipino workers is still PHP17 billion short if they were to distribute support to all undocumented migrants. Amidst this crisis, Sara Duterte has spent over PHP612.5 MILLION alone in confidential funds – it is no surprise that the people are rightfully calling for her impeachment!
The conditions in the Philippines for Filipino women and mothers continue to worsen due to the poor governance by the elite few – ruling political dynasties that only enrich themselves. Marcos himself, despite Sara and her father’s threats to heighten their political feud, has denied the calls for her impeachment. He remains unwilling to charge Sara Duterte of corruption because he is also culpable of this crime. Meanwhile the people are clamoring for genuine social and economic change in the form of true land reform, social services and jobs within the country - not abroad.
More and more Filipinos are migrating to countries like the U.S. in order to seek financial stability and support for their family. Filipino migrant mothers are forcibly separated from their children in order to support their healthcare and education. As Filipinos abroad we share a similar story and may have family in the Philippines that we continue to support or have family who are making the difficult decision to live in other countries. This is a cruel pattern that can only be stopped once we can come together in an organized force to fight for our right to a genuinely liberated Philippines. The call to impeach Sara Duterte is justified as she has shown through her actions that she does not have the true interests of the broad masses of people in mind. We will carry this demand until it is met! Just like the People Power revolutions against Marcos Sr. and Estrada, corrupt Presidents can be ousted with a strong united front made up of the masses!
