DFA disappoints, disparages & distressed overseas Filipinos, prioritizes comforts for Duterte
3/13/25
GABRIELA USA slams the Department of Foreign Affairs, and ultimately the U.S.-Marcos Regime for the prioritization of Consular assistance to former Philippine President Duterte. The Philippine Embassy in The Netherlands reported to have "prepared, procured and delivered winter clothing... and care packages" for Duterte who was arrested by warrant of the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.
Let's be clear that Duterte is not an overseas Filipino in distress, Duterte is a war criminal.
These comforts afforded to Duterte by the Philippine State and the Department of Foreign affairs are in complete contradiction to the lack of assistance the 30,000+ families, mothers, wives, and children were not afforded as their loved ones were killed in Duterte's drug war, a war on the poor.
Meanwhile, migrant women are left fearing for their own safety or languishing in jail waiting for assistance that will never come. Ligaya Jensen has repeatedly reached out the Philippine Consulate General LA - but has never received a cent from the government. Alma Bowman, another Filipina woman at risk for deportation, has had her family visit the Philippine Embassy for help with her documents, but they have not lifted a finger to help them.
Dhenmark and Jovi, two Filipino nationals who were facing detention, were approved for the Assistance To Nationals (ATN), a resource supposedly allocated to assist Filipino nationals abroad in distress, but it was never released despite public clamor. The Philippine state's inaction to address the needs of migrant families and instead support a fascist ex-president with a blood debt is telling of where their priorities lie.
